Big Horn River - Brent Downey: The last day - Wednesday Sept23rd, 1992

How do you describe fishing where in 45 minutes 5 fish over 3lbs ( 4 Rainbows and 1 Brown) are caught and run across the river?
This happened on Schneiders Channel around 3.30pm today. 4 took the San Juan worm and one a wonder nymph.
What a wonderful riffle & run! Before Schneider’s channel we caught numerous good fish including 2lb + whitefish (4 in total - Brent was annoyed by then!) and a Threadfinned shad (1/2 lb) from the boat.
For a while we stopped at a good riffle fished upstream of the “Drive In” - a series of car wrecks ( 60/70 wrecks in total all neatly lined up at the bark and covered when the river at full height).
I lost a very large Brown after he ran me across the whole river. After losing one more I landed a 3 lb Brown. The riffle has a classic shallow riffle.
Just before the riffle a side channel was created around a small island and a classic feeding lane down the far bank saw one good rainbow leisurely sipping tan caddis (his head would keep popping above surface as he took the flies very casually ( a wonderful sight - water was only a foot or so deep).
There was a second rainbow below the one above ( not rising) and we site fished this one and caught him first cast after he moved left to take the nymph. He was blind in right eye and had a massive tumour on one side (apple sized). The surface feeding fish disappeared and then a large carp came out from an overhanging debris - he swam upstream and then downstream right to our feet until he suddenly sensed danger and ran away! He got within 2 feet of our feet!
Drifted rest of river and caught more good fish - Browns and Rainbows. An excellent day fishing small nymphs and the San Juan Worm. 50% of fish took dropper (worm towards the end!) Also lost a number of good fish today.
The Yellow PP bite indicator used last few days was Maxicord PP rope. 2″ was cut off and combed literally. The fibres were thoroughly ginked!!! The knot used to secure the indicator was tied by looping line then creating a second loop behind it which was pulled through the first loop
