Be Determined to Learn from Others. Put into Practice What Great Fly Fishers Teach. Don’t Just Read the Book
Like you, I own far more flyfishing tackle and equipment than I need. At the time when I bought those extra rods, those 3 new reels and spare spools, that 7th fly container (with enough flies to fill all of them) I had easily convinced myself that I couldn’t do without them if I was to increase my fly fishing catch rate.
As I look back and if I’m honest the real reason was that I couldn’t resist the sales pitch. I just wanted to own the rods and reels. I liked them. I loved fly fishing and I only needed the slightest excuse to invest (or is it spend) more into my chosen hobby or sport. Crikey I read the ads in the flyfishing magazines as avidly as I read the articles.
And not for a moment would I hesitate to suggest you do not follow my path although I know, and you know, those extra fly fishing paraphanelia purchases are not going to make the difference between success and failure.
Fly fishing success is in the brain, it comes from learning from the observations, experiments trials and errors of many other people and especially those who have taken the trouble to document their knowledge in books, videos, DVD’s and websites.
The trouble is that the Fly Fishing Literature is huge … there are thousands of books and it’s impossible to own them all or even find them all in a library assuming you knew they existed in the first place.
This gave me an idea and an opportunity to put something back into fly fishing for the benefit of anybody who wants to learn without finding and reading the right books. After all I own some of the best fly fishing books ever published and within these covers there are so many tips and techniques that are best brought out from inside the book covers and shared using the power of the Internet with fly fishing enthusiasts worldwide.
So, now I have the time (I’m 62, own my own business and can make as much free time as I like to enjoy) and some inclination I have set myself a long-term task of re-reading all my books. I wont just read the books though. I want to extract and edit the really GOOD BITS or key points, that when thought about and absorbed into the grey matter of the mind will make a ifference …or at least they made a difference in my flyfishing life.
That’s what this publication is about … disseminating the great theories and practices of fly fishing for trout and mainly using a floating line.
